About OLC

What is OLC?

In the Outdoor Leadership Council (OLC) Girl Scouts learn wilderness skills & lead outdoor adventures for other scouts, including CSA hking & backpacking trips throughout the year, as well as 3-day spring campout for over 150 girls & women. Experienced OLC high-schoolers (Co-Directors & Mentors) run the program, backed up by adult advisors. Most OLC & SAMOREE hours count as Community Service.

Who Can Join OLC?

Current 6th-12th grade Girl Scouts committed to learning and practicing wilderness skills and positive leadership and followership are welcome. Core commitment is to attend â…” of meetings + SAMOREE; backpacking is highly encouraged.

Who Leads the OLC?

Co-Directors: High school scouts who have been in OLC at least 3 years, have backpacked with Girl Scouts, have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to OLC and the ability to confidently competently teach wilderness skills and provide positive supportive leadership.

Mentors: 8 grade and older scouts who have been in OLC at least 1 year, have hiked and camped with Girl Scouts, have demonstrated a commitment to OLC and the ability to teach wilderness skills and provide positive leadership and followership.
